3 Mind-Set Secrets For Achieving Your Dream Body

Imagine your ultimate, dream body. Image waking up every day loving what you see in the mirror overwhelmed with confidence and positivity. If you feel like you’re doing “everything right” but your dream body is still elusively out of reach..then keep reading.

You see, we all have a “story”.  A story made up of the conversations we have with ourselves throughout the day. From the moment you wake up in the morning and look in the mirror (maybe regretting last nights dinner lol) to that post 5pm slump and glass of wine to unwind.

You may be surprised to discover it’s not what you’re doing but rather what you’re thinking that has the biggest impact on your ability to achieve the body you want. For many women this is the “aha” moment to unlocking the body they’ve always dreamed of….

I know this better than anyone. At 44 years of age I discovered how to change the story I was telling myself and achieve a physical transformation that shocked everyone…including myself.

This is me 10 years prior and the “story” I told myself on a daily basis…

  • I’m too sick to exercise; I suffered from chronic asthma.
  • My cellulite is genetic; I was riddled with deep cellulite from the waist down.
  • I can never give up my sweets; I lived on sugar, lollies, sweets and cakes.
  • I’m too old to change; I felt old.
  • What’s the point anyway…I’m over the hill; OMG what was I thinking??….

So what’s your story?

  • Maybe you feel mentally and physically exhausted from all the multiple responsibilities sucking time and energy from your day.
  • Maybe you feel discouraged from past failures, afraid of being disappointed again…so you just don’t try.
  • Maybe you rationalize that losing weight, getting lean and in great shape isn’t really that important…even though deep down you wish you felt a lot better about yourself.
  • Or maybe…when you do see some progress you feel anxious that everything will slip through your fingers, just like it has in the past.

You’re not alone.

As a transformation coach I’ve helped thousands of women around the world achieve their ultimate dream body. Every day I get emails and questions about what to “do” to lose weight and get in amazing shape; what foods to eat, when to eat them, what workouts are the best and the ideal exercises.

All this is important but often the obsession with getting everything “perfect” overshadows the root cause of why you’re not achieving the results you want….because it all starts with your mental game plan. You can follow the best diet and workout program under the sun but if your thoughts are sabotaging you on a daily basis you will never get the dream body you’ve been hoping for. If you’ve tried all sorts of programs and products in the past without results – then maybe this is why!

Just for a moment – calm your mind, let go of those old conversations and open up your thinking to new possibilities.

You are capable of change; you do have the freedom and power to follow your dreams, you are worthy of investing time, energy and money into.

It’s time to start believing that things can be very different; have the courage to say “yes I deserve this” and be willing to change… get that mental picture of what you want in your head, front and center

Here’s how you can do it….

1. Daily Self-Affirmation

We all struggle with insecurities, doubts and fears. But we need to change this conversation! As you look in the mirror to get dressed in the morning – stop searching for all the things you don’t like about your body. Stop berating yourself about all the clothes you don’t fit into. Pick one thing you do like about your body and affirm that instead. Wear an outfit that makes you feel good…not because it camouflages your flaws. When you catch your reflection during the day instead of feeling discouraged – smile at yourself and say “I can do this”….

All these micro-conversations add up to a powerful new story that will start changing your day (and your life) miraculously overnight. You know why? Because without even consciously trying your actions will start to line up with your thinking!! This is how profound, lasting change becomes possible.

Don’t be fooled by the simplicity of this truth. Change your story just for one day and see what a difference it makes….

2. Daily Focus

Your day is full of distractions. Even the best intentions can get sidetracked. Here’s the secret. Focus on what’s most important. Be ruthless. What one thing today will make the biggest difference in your life? Make that your not negotiable. And then when the time comes, be in the moment. Don’t over think it, don’t get bogged down in the details…just do it. The law of attraction states that you get more of what you put your attention on. So stop focusing on the problem and focus on your one most important thing, today.

You can experience dramatic long term, lasting transformation from the cumulative effect of many, many days just like this. Many individual days dedicated to your one most important thing. Stop looking wistfully into the future hoping for things to be different and start focusing on what you can do right now, today.

3. Daily Transitioning

Now listen closely, this one is very important. It’s the make or break.

We all have the many roles to play in our life. The mother, the wife, the worker, the carer, the organizer, the fill in the blank. And our day constantly demands we transition from one role to another. From our home to our workplace. From our children’s school to our partner’s social event. From the kitchen to the bedroom. Even the most successful women struggle with this. It’s easy for the challenges of transitioning to create a massive barrier to achieving your goals. Because it takes effort. It takes planning. It takes commitment.

Here are a few examples of critical transition moments:

  • You wake up early in the morning to workout but you’re tempted to roll over and go back to sleep.
  • It’s your lunchtime at work and it’s time to get to the gym but your cell phone rings.
  • You’re at home after a long day about to get your workout gear on but your partner offers you a drink.

Transitioning from one role to another, from environment to the next – isn’t easy. Even women who enjoy working out and making healthy choices find this challenging.

Think about it.

It’s these critical transition times when the negative thoughts, distractions and excuses creep in. The secret is to learn how to switch gears and transition from one state of mind and environment to the place you want to be.

How do you do this?

  • Planning. Preparing ahead of time will help you successfully transition. Pack your gym gear the night before. Make your food-shopping list before you get to the supermarket. Put some effort into getting organized. It will pay off big time.
  • Projection. As you enter a critical transition moment, start visualizing yourself as the beautiful, fit, capable woman you are. Remind yourself you deserve this. See yourself already doing your “one most important thing”.
  • Perseverance. Sometimes we have to drag our body kicking and screaming! Yes it’s battle of the wills but many, many women give in way too quickly that negative voice. This is the rubber meets the road moment. It all hinges on a simple yet powerful decision – to do just it.

Dramatic transformation comes from daily transitioning.

Oh, and by the way! A critical transition moment is when I am exercising motivated to look good (so I am attractive to my husband, get affection, etc.) vs. because I love myself and want to invest in the joy of strength and movement. Another one is in the evening when my day slows down and I sit with my feelings. Sometimes I eat the most then because I don’t know how else to relax and enjoy.

Oh Bel… This really spoke to me. I have realized from working with you that the exercises and eating is so much easier and effortless when I have my mindset aligned with it. I sometimes ask myself, how would toned and taut Nat make this decision vs my other self? I have found that if I am in the mindset of that toned and taut Nat my whole day goes different.

I remember on the Oprah show some years ago that a weight loss researcher observed one simple difference between healthy weight vs unhealthy weight people. Both groups make eating mistakes or transgressions. But people with unhealthy weight beat themselves up over it and give up; subsequently going into a downward spiral of emotional eating, etc. Healthy weight people immediately step back into a healthy mindset. I have heard of similar studies where they told two groups of people eating the same food different beliefs about the food (I.e. One group was told it was really healthy, the other group was told it was really unhealthy). The group that was told it was unhealthy ate more throughout the day because they beat up on themselves about it.

Mindset is huge. And you are helping me apply it into my routine to enhance and support my physical actions (and by the way… I would rather feel good and have some loving, gentle fun along the way then suffer to get there.)

A random side note: I read in an article somewhere that a supermodels top slimming secret was buying pants that were one size bigger. She said that it makes you FEEL so sexy and comfortable! and ends up looking so much better on you (vs squeezing in to those tight, butt crack hanging out jeans, ha!)

I love the shift in your thinking to the “toned and taut Nat“….that’s so powerful, not just within yourself but how your energy affects the world around you. Fascinating re Oprah and I have to say my experience coaching women affirms that too. Often that’s the make or break – how we frame or re-frame our challenges and setbacks. Hahahaa…love that supermodel tip..looser clothes are so much more comfortable too lol.
