Back then I’d been happily married for 16 years.

We lived in our dream home and were trying for the baby I’d wanted for a long time.

I had a thriving career and felt on top of the world.

One day my husband confessed that for half our marriage he’d been consorting with hookers (while preaching from the pulpit on Sundays).

As it turned out, my “dream life” was an illusion.

I found myself suddenly divorced, jobless and childless.

I felt very alone and old; terrified of what lay ahead.

To make matters worse I was overweight and riddled with cellulite. Unfit was an understatement. I’d never exercised in my life.

I wanted to change but was facing the…

The 3 Big Lies

  1. You’re too old
  1. Your body is too far-gone
  1.  You don’t have the genetics

Here’s what I found….

Despite my chronic life long asthma, living on sugar and never having owned a bikini or anything remotely “sexy”…

Once I decided to change, none of this mattered. I became unstoppable.

~ How many times do you think I felt like giving up?

~ How many rejections do you think I faced?

~ How many insulting snickers did I overhear?

Yes the odds were against me but I didn’t give up.

And to my surprise, not only did I survive …I thrived.


I proved the naysayers wrong and you can too…let me show you how.





Have you ever experienced the feeling that something isn’t quite right?

~ Why don’t I feel more fulfilled?

But we’re so busy that we don’t pay attention to what’s really going on.

Until one day looking in the mirror and think “what happened to my body”??!!

Your hormonal clock is ticking. Estrogen, progesterone and testosterone are declining. This affects your metabolism, energy, muscle mass, bone density, body shape and fat distribution.

But no one is talking about this stuff. Even the doctors don’t seem to have the answers.

What are the role models and expectations of women our age?

A little different than 10 or 20 years ago?

Yep, things have changed.

This is a dilemma we all face….

It’s not enough to be a wife, mother and working woman….

We’re expected to look amazing, read Chicken Soup for the Soul, go to hot yoga classes in between whipping up the odd sugar-free raw food dessert for the family. All fueled on by social media updates and photos that seem like a storyboard for the perfect life…

Here’s the truth.

Most of us fall way short of these unrealistic benchmarks.

Nevertheless, we still feel judged. People expect different things from us than they did of our mothers.

We desire change but feel overwhelmed. Our past fears and failures loom high. We can’t help imaging the judgments from well-meaning friends and family….

“Really, you?”

“I don’t think that will work.”

“Are you sure you’re up for that.”

This challenges even the most positive person.

But it’s where the rubber meets the road.

How badly do you want this?

You need to be single-minded. Let go of social pressures and expectations.

Develop an unshakable confidence that you deserve this and can do it your way, no matter what.


This is your personal journey.

Don’t let anyone tell you what you can and can’t do. This is YOUR choice.

You’re never too old, too overweight, too busy, too unhealthy or too unfit to make a change. It’s never too late no matter what your age, body type or lifestyle.

Don’t let the judgments of others discourage you from your path.




I get messages every day from beautiful women just like you.

Desperate for a better body and sometimes they even know how to get it – but they just can’t get started.

So I try to understand what’s going on…

Often they are stuck on things like macro-nutrient percentages, cardio versus HIIT, what exercise to get rid of knee fat or butt cellulite and so on….trying to get everything perfect. So perfect, that they never really get started.

What’s really happening is that they are scared to fully commit….

Scared they’ll be judged by family and friends.

Scared it’s not gonna work.

Scared they’ll fail.

Do you think I wasn’t scared at 40, trying to get in shape for the first time in my life?

I fell flat on my face time and again. I had some spectacular failures.

Do you think I didn’t hear the snickers and cruel comments; “she’s too old”, “what is she thinking” or “how embarrassing”? Heck, I still do.  

But I kept my eye on the goal.  Doing my thing.


It’s time to take a step back and look at the big picture. Think about what’s most important to YOU. Then get laser focused.

This is about setting goals for your body, based on your lifestyle and priorities. Own it. Then do it.


There is no perfect formula, perfect time or perfect circumstances.

Just start, don’t look back and never give up.

Once you’ve taken the first step with this mindset, you’re destined for success.


Don’t make the mistake of getting stuck on past failures or mistakes.

Every woman I know who has achieved lasting transformation experienced discouragements and setbacks.

I know I did!

Hi Belinda! Its I am 55 , and realy struggeling with some belly fat and buttocks .I work out at 4.30 in the morning tull 5 ,the i prepare and work till after nine at night ..most of the time on my feet.Please can you help .I am a big fan of you and has been from the start it is only that I do not have a lot of free time on my hands so whatever exercises I do must be “powerrfull” to fit in my 30 min schedule..Thank yoy so much .I do appreciate. Hi Petro! As our hormones change it’s really important to workout the right way for our body and goals – without overtraining or straining the joints, ligaments or tendons of our body. We are more prone to inflammation and it’s harder to build lean muscle mass. What is your workout level, height and weight and do you have any injuries or health issues? What are your goals? Woww,you have mirrored my concerns in your article. I have been trying ro loose wait and stay lean as long as i know myself but never managed to hit the target but just come close once. Wearing knee length dress or skirt is a dream and summer is just a nightmare for me knowing i have to hide my legs and not be able to find the right outfit to cover all my extras. I am trying to get this Fat off , I am exercising 2-3 times a week combination of Weights, running ,and hiit training …I am not sure I am eating enough or to much …I am 4 stone over weight and my dream is to have a six pack ….

Hi I saw a Facebook clip about targeting specific areas using specific excercises for over 40. I am in this category and excersice very regularyly but am having a lot of trouble trying to shift the excess body fat. I eat very healthy and only drink minimal alcahol. I don’t smoke. Please help me?

I love your inspiring video..I’m 43 single mum with a 12 yr old son and a busy full time job. I manage to walk the dog which at the moment is my exercise. I’m about 3 stone overweight. I’ve been through a lot in the last few years. My ex husband was murdered. I know this has had a huge affect on me and struggle to move forward. I have a lot of confidence issues and constantly sabotage myself. I’d love to know how to move forward and let go of the past X

I know for myself, professional counseling helped tremendously to reframe my thinking about the past, to let go of the bad feelings and focus on a new future. The grieving process for what’s lost can take a few years…so ongoing support is important. Also, discovering what makes you happy – simple things like just walking your dog, being out in nature, learning something new – can help tremendously to feel more positive. Hi Tula, good question. The Get Lean Eating Plan is designed to work alone without exercise – so yes. I often find if women have been doing one type of exercise for a while (crossfit, running, weight training) they see very good results by mixing my workouts with their regular routine – as the body tends to adapt over time and you stop seeing progress. Hi Belinda, I’m a 43 wife and mum of 2 boys. As annoying as this may sound to some I’m not overweight, and I’m lucky enough to come from a sporting background so have a pretty good base fitness level. I eat very healthy (most of the time) also. My biggest issue however is cellulite! It drives me crazy knowing I’m not overweight but hide my thighs and bum on the beach anyway. So this is my big driver for transformation along with the strong desire to be super healthy on the inside. I’ve just started a heal your gut eating plan in an attempt to address a few niggly little health issues and reduce general inflammation in my body. I know it’s s short synopsis of me but would you recommend I follow your get lean program or just go through your cellulite module? I’d love to learn as much as I can about fitness for women in our age bracket. Many thanks, Nicky

Well after reading this I felt like you were specifically speaking to me! Are there Vegetarian options in your program? I eat eggs, dairy & seafood but no land dwellers ? Hi Belinda,
I’m 49 in 2 weeks, Have previously lost 25 kgs, put back on a few stubborn ones that now wont shift.
I have decided to get lean and fit. I already walk up to 10kg several times a week but don’t do any “exercises” as such. I live in a small country town and have no access to a gym, so I will need to do all my training at home and by myself which freaks me out just a little.
Is your program still suited to someone like me?

At 39, and at the ‘chunkiest’ I’ve ever been, I thought I’d just ‘hit that age’ where things were on the decline and that was that! But reading your encouraging story…I think I can do this…I think I can be proud of myself again. I have always been fit, and had quite a good figure….until I started office work and spent more time sitting than moving! Ive become quite unmotivated…complacent & lazy! But no more! I’d love to have your guidance to get me back to great again!!

Thank you so much for this. I feel social pressure every day. Whether real or perceived it’s still pressure. I have been active in the fitness circle for about 14 years. I’m interested in body building. Every time I get close to becoming noticeable on whatever level I somehow sabotage myself. This last time was the worst with many factors to analyze. You’ve given me so much to meditate on.

A powerful and positive message going into the “danger zone” of Christmas festivities!
Thank you for posting, it’s always an inspiring and thoughtful read to hear from you and helps me get back on track after I’ve been bemoaning the weight creep that can take place over the course of a year.
I especially like that you acknowledge that failure is simply part of the process of getting stronger and to pick up again from that point and just keep going with your personal fitness and nutrition goals.
My challenge going forward is to make sure I always schedule some exercise everyday and to not snack so much with my partner! He’s a lovely sweet man but definitely a snacker, and will often eat this in place of real food. We have moved in together recently and temptations abound! Thankfully he is very supportive of my personal goal of weight loss so if I vocalize any suggestions to help me not overeat, he’s on board (mostly!)

Thank you for being so brave and sharing so honestly especially about what happened in your marriage and about the snickers and cruel comments, I was sorry to hear this, but equally inspired by what you have gone on to do and achieve. I won´t pretend recently I have been hearing those same voices, that I am too old, and to accept that now at 43 years old I was now the older woman and should maybe dress and behave accordingly as if something was dying in me and it was time to conform.
