How to Tighten and Tone Your Inner Thighs (video)

by Belinda on October 6, 2013

Have you ever spent hours in the gym trying to improve your flabby inner thighs, saggy butt or cellulite spots – only to be bitterly disappointed at your beach holiday photos?  Have you ever wondered if you’re doing the right exercises to target those female specific trouble zones?  If so, you might find the story of how I got started in the gym enlightening.

I’d never been in a gym until my early 40’s.  Even then, I had no idea what I was doing. In fact, I used to workout after being at the pool with my wet bikini under my clothes and wearing flip-flops!  Lucky this was Panama where pretty much anything goes.

But when I decided to get serious and see what was possible if I really put my mind to it, I found Evelio, a trainer from Columbia who had worked with some of the top bodybuilders.   Despite my Spanish and his non-existent English we made a great team and he trained me as hard as any of his male competitors (thank you Evelio, I miss you!).

But after my first competition, I noticed some very specific areas that just weren’t responding no matter what I did: the upper back of my legs, lower butt, inner thigh and lower abs.

You can probably add to these female specific trouble zones, things like the outer thigh area (saddlebags), under arms, back fat and saggy skin and other places you’d rather not think about.

To my frustration, after busting my butt in the gym – these problem areas were only marginally improved when compared to the rest of my body. This was the start of my mission to discover the most potent and powerful exercises to improve these female specific trouble zones (by the way, yes men and women do need to train differently – simply because their goals are different)!

Maybe you’ve exercised all your life but just can’t get rid of those last few pounds or stubborn cellulite. Maybe you’re a personal trainer who can never get really lean yourself. Or maybe you’ve just very unhappy with your body and have almost given up hope.

Imagine working out, knowing what you’re doing is laser targeting those stubborn problem areas?  Imagine how motivated you’d feel, how inspired and how rewarding it will be to look in the mirror in just a few weeks and see the difference.

Let me share what I discovered back in Panama just a few years ago.

bodymuscles

We have around 200 key muscles that support, shape and firm our body. Without proper stimulation these muscles become weak, mushy and flaccid. Resulting in a body that is saggy, spongy, disproportioned and cellulite-prone.

But by stimulating these muscles with the correct exercises you can laser target your female specific trouble zones to:

- Lift and firm your butt

- Tighten your inner & outer thighs

- Lean out your legs

- Flatten and define your tummy

- Tone your arms and back

To create a beautifully balanced, defined and lean physique.  No more cellulite, no more saggy skin, no more jiggly bits.

Imagine being able to buy and wear whatever you want. Able to look in the mirror and love what you see.  To feel completely confident when naked knowing you look incredible.

It might seem simple enough but if done right you’ll feel your body immediately starting to change shape, firm up and get lean.  The secret lies in doing specific exercises with the right form, done at the correct speed, in the ideal sequence to build strong, lean, fat burning muscle – guaranteed to get your dream body.

These exercises use very specialized and specific movements to work the muscles in ways traditional gym workouts cannot.  They stimulate the deep muscle fiber layers, targeting them for both stabilization and strength.  This is the secret to re-shaping our body from the inside out.

Let me show you an example how this works, focusing on the troublesome inner thigh area – notoriously hard to tighten, tone and define, but more than possible as this photo of mine illustrates.

Inner Thigh Exercise

It’s exercises just like this that make up the exact system that enabled me to transform my body mid-life from flabby, spongy and saggy. To being lean and toned with firm, smooth cellulite-free skin.

Even at 49 years of age I’m in the best shape of my life – and I intend to stay like this forever.  And I know how to help you do the same.

You don’t have to accept second best, average or anything less than the great body you desire and deserve.  Don’t be like most women and just give up and accept from here it’s a downhill slide…..

This is NOT what I want for you and I know it’s not what you desire for yourself.

It’s time to feel good in your own skin again….really good. Imagine what that would feel like and how it would change your life.  That’s true transformation.

Today, stop and think about how you’ve been working out – if you don’t know what exercises to do in order to target your female specific problem zones then how can you expect your body to change?  It’s just hit and miss – shooting in the dark.  Tons of time and energy putting your body through the wringer and hoping (and praying) you come the other side looking better.

There’s a more effective, easier and efficient way to get results.

Hi Miff, I am really sorry to hear about your health problems – and it’s great to hear you eat clean. With the specifics of your health challenges, this falls outside the scope of my experience so I wouldn’t feel comfortable recommending something, I think your health provider/physio would be able to help. I will say that floor exercises that support your body (joints, ligaments and tendons), while using gravity to lift your body gently off the floor would make sense. Maybe as a starting point some gentle Pilates could be fun and beneficial – but run it past your doctor first!

I hope this helps and good on your for posting and reaching out for help, I believe some gentle activity will make a big difference to the quality of your life.

Hug, Bel

Hi Em, I hear you. The dramatic hormonal fluctuations approaching 50 can play havoc with your metabolism, energy levels and health. Suddenly, what you used to eat is now piling on the weight and to make matters worse, you have way less energy. Don’t give in or give up. Eating healthy and exercising still is the absolute best solution to getting your best body and feeling great – but it’s going to require a new level of commitment and focus. I know right now you feel like you don’t have the resources to dig that deep but believe me, you’ll be glad you did because once you breakthrough and start getting your weight down, your body will find it easier to adjust to the hormonal fluctuations. Next April I’ll be releasing my new Super Sexy Skin Program which includes a hormonal optimizing eating plan – which is ideal for you. Keep your eye out for that. I’d also recommend my Bodyweight Workouts – which are short but intense, allow you to workout at home and burn fat while building lean tight muscle to tone your body from the inside out. I hope this helps! Bel xoxo

Hi Bel!
I’m turning 33 in May and I’m just in remission from Lyme disease – finally over it, thank God!! Consequently, a few years of lying in bed has given me a rather sobering case of flabby muscles and lots of cellulite to torch, and I’m wondering what you would recommend to someone in my condition. I can’t push myself too hard as I need to be SUPER careful with my adrenals/cortisol levels/hormones. My tendency is to overtrain. I just started Joey’s Naked Beauty cellulite program, but I know I’ll need more than this to get me in wicked shape. My belly is naturally flat, but my thighs, above-knee area, butt, hips, inner thighs ALL have cellulite – EWW!!! How can I safely transform this fragile body of mine and get killer results?
Also, is there a way I can do your Get Lean program from home?? Do I have to invest in all kinds of weights, or can I get YOUR kind of results just using my body weight???

Thank you kindly from Kentucky!!

Hi Stephanie, sorry to hear about the Lyme disease – crikies that must have been an unexpected shock, thank goodness you’ve recovered. Coming through that experience must have taken a lot of courage. I bet you’ll never take your health for granted again.

Joey’s program is ideal, so stick with that.

Yes you can do my program from home, there are a wide range of bodyweight workouts that require no equipment and some especially target those female trouble zones you mention. I would be guided by your doctor in terms of what’s ideal for your weekly routine. If you feel like you coping OK with Joey’s program and you want to start on upper body and core – and then advance your lower body in due course – AND you have the OK from your doc, then Get Lean is great. The thing about bodyweight is that the range of motion and level of exertion corresponds more naturally to your strength and fitness levels with reduced risk of injury (from using heavy weights or incorrect form) when compared to traditional gym based workouts. The most important aspect is to take things step by step. Just gradually increase the intensity and monitor your health (with the help of your doctor) and listen to your body; if you’re feeling good, sleeping well and your energy levels are great – then you’re on the right path, if not, then time to pull back a little. Make sense?

I hope this helps and good on your for coming this far – now that you’ve turned the corner I have a feeling there will be no holding you back!

Hi Belinda,

I’ve engaged you on your blog before and your answer was really helpful for my question at the time. After reading this article I’ve a few more questions…

I have quite pronounced cellulite for my age and have had since 16 although I’m not or have ever been overweight. I also have a clean, balanced diet, with additional supplements etc. After doing lots of research I’ve come to the conclusion that the biggest contributing factor to my cellulite is that I just have quite thin skin on my thighs compared to the rest of my body. I wanted to know if you’ve come across anything in your years of experience that can help to build the elasticity of the skin in the body? I’m not sure how building muscle tone affects the elasticity of the skin itself? Obviously cellulite is more than just thin skin, but for me I think the ‘thin skin’ makes the adipose tissue pushing through the sparse connective tissue more pronounced.
Cheers :-)
Julie
Hope my question makes sense

Hi Julie :)

Yes your question makes complete sense. There are a few factors at play when it comes to the appearance of cellulite.

Having worked in the skincare industry for 10 years, I’ve seen a diverse range of skin types and observed how those affect different conditions like aging and cellulite. A good diet, avoiding sun exposure plus regular massage and exfoliation will all optimize the condition of your skin and help improve elasticity. Personally, I am a huge fan of regular exfoliation which encourages skin cell renewal and detoxifies through stimulating blood and lymph circulation.

These things will help and are what I recommend to my clients, but by far, building muscle density is the most effectively way to improve the appearance of the surface skin in regards to cellulite.

I hope this helps!
